With the 8 points gained at Sibiu Rally, Alex Filip and Bogdan Iancuwent up on the first position of the general ranking of group A. „The Dinamobile” managed to resist the toughest rally of the National Championship.
After two years exactly from the first race with the Citroen C2R2, Alex Filip and Bogdan Iancu went up on the first position of the group A ranking. After Sibiu Rally, crew 79 has 5 points more in comparison to the next competitor.
For Alex Filip and Bogdan Iancu, Sibiu Rally started in Piata Mare of Sibiu with an autograph session. “The festive start was scheduled right in the middle of the town. The atmosphere from Piata Mare in Sibiu was fantastic and I am glad so many Sibiu inhabitants came to support us.”, stated Bogdan Iancu, the copilot of crew 79, racing in Sibiu in front of his own supporters.
The first real rally day started with a mistake. On the super special, Alex Filip lost 13 seconds and after the first two stages of the rally found himself on the 7th position. “I made a childish mistake, that cost us a lot of time. The first day was a very short one and we will try to recover the lost time on the other 6 special stages left.”, said Alex Filip, after the first day of Sibiu Rally.
The second day, crew 79 started the making up for the lost time fight. Second place on the first special of the day, second place on the first race on Crinti and the same position on the SS Calugaru made Alex Filip go up on the second position in the general ranking of group A.
„On the SS Dobarca, the first of the day, I didn't have any chance in front of more powerful cars. On SS Crinti we had a better rhythm until we saw our direct competitor, Edwin Keleti, stopped on the right. We reduced rhythm in order to protect our car”, said Alex Filip, in the first service park of the day.
After the second SS Dobarca and the abandon of Nistor Duval, Alex Filip and Bogdan Iancu managed to take the lead of the A group, position they lost because of a flat tire on SS Crinti. “This stage has done a lot of victims. At approximately 9 kilometers after the start we've done a flat tire on the front right and lost about 2 minutes”, said Bogdan Iancu, the copilot of crew 79.
Even if they won the last SS of the Sibiu Rally, Alex Filip and Bogdan Iancu finished on the second position. „At the beginning we were told we have won, but then we found out that the officials of the race wrote a wrong time in our book, one minute less than our real time. We have enjoyed the champagne bath anyway as this rally has brought us on the first position of the general ranking of group A which is the most important thing of them all. I want to thank everybody supporting us - Phillipe Bugalski, Simon Jean-Joseph, Dodo Pitigoi, Stefano Rafaneli, the technical team from Colina Motors, but especially to Cristina for letting Bogdan spend his first honey week by by side and not hers”, said Alex Filip.
The next challenge for Alex Filip and Bogdan Iancu, in the Dunlop National Rally Championship is Tara Barsei Rally scheduled between August 21st – 23rd.
