Back to normal! 74 competitors have entered Round 4 of the 2009 FIA World Rally Championship, an encouraging increase on the 36 starters at Rally Ireland, the 42 in Norway and the 35 currently on the list for Cyprus. Portugal will be the first orthodox rally and first central European rally of the season and this has also attracted competitors in the international one make Fiesta series and the first appearance of the six 2008 Pirelli Star Drivers. Like in Cyprus, Production Car and Junior championship drivers contest the same event. As this is the third out of eight rounds of both the PCWRC and the JWRC series, this is the first time it is possible to see a representative list of competitors in these series. Unless waivers are issued allowing late entries, there are 19 entries in the PCWRC and nine in the JWRC , 14 and seven respectively to take part in Portugal. Two other championship entries were made for the PCWRC from Top Run srl, but they have applied to withdraw from the series. Two Guest entries are expected for the PCWRC series from Portuguese drivers Bruno Magalhaes and Ricardo Moura, but none for the JWRC category. 18 World Rally Cars are included on the list, including the double father-and son entries from Holland for the van Merksteijn family and the Kuipers family.
