Crew 79 FILIP/NEMES again on podium
Citroen C2R2 and the Pirelli tyres resisted the toughness of the race
Alex Filip – pilot and co-pilot for four stars at Citroen Romania event
Sibiu Pirelli Rally lasted a whole week for crew Alex Filip/Gicu Nemes. The final was perfect, 8 points gained in group A ranking.
Sibiu Pirelli Rally was a race against the chronometer for Alex Filip and Gicu Nemes. The whole story starts on Monday, July 14th, with a test session together with the Frech champion Philippe Bugalski, the test pilot of Citroen Sport and the engineer Samuel Barraud. Immediately after this tests the engine left for Oreca in France for inspection. „The effort our team made was incredible. Sincerely speaking I didn't think everything will finish just fine, but on Thursday, July 17th we managed to exhibit the car in front of the Orange Shop and in Piata Mare in Sibiu for the festive start”, said Alex Filip.
Friday, July 18th, was the first day of Sibiu Pirelli Rally competition, a day that didn't start quite well. „I made a beginner's mistake. On the second stage on Santa I forgot to open the ventilation and I had to pilot all the stage with a vapoury windscreen. I lost over two minutes becuase of that and I went down on the 4th positionin group A”, said Alex Filip, at the end of the first day of Sibiu Pirelli Rally.
The second day of Sibiu Pirelli Rally was better for crew 79. „The rythm was constant becuase we were trying to protect the car. We are very poleased with the Pirelli tyres efficiency. We only had one flat tyre on the last special stage of the rally, which is amazing in a rally such as the one from”, said Gicu Nemes, the co-pilotof the crew.
At the end of the 11 special stages, summing up over 160 km, crew Alex Filip and Gicu Nemes finished the rally on the 2nd position in group A and the 9th position in the general ranking. „We have finished only two rallys of five this tear and we are on the 5th position in group A total ranking. We have thre more rallies this year and I believe we can achieve our goal - finishing the season on the podium of group A”, said Alex Filip, at the end of the thoughest andmost tyring rally of this season.
Sibiu Pirelli Rally finished only on Sunday for Alex Filip when Mihaela Radulescu, Andreea Patrascu, Dani Otil and Cabral became the pilots of the Citroën for one day. Sunday, July 20th, the four stayed behind the wheel of the Citroen C2 R2, piloted by Alex Filip in The romanian Rally Championship, and for one day they experimented the feeling of being a rally pilot.
Mihaela Radulescu, Andreea Patrascu, Dani Otil and Cabral overlept all preparing stages and got in the car behind the steering wheel of the Citroën C2 R2. To be honest, not directly behind the steering wheel. First of all they payed attention to Alex Filip's explanations for some circuit tours. And to have the same rally sensations, the four piloted the car on the famous super special stage of Sibiu Rally, the only one in Romania where two cars can race in parallel.. „I am very happy I had the opportunity to meet the four and to be honest I wasn't expecting them to get used to the car so easily. It was a unique experience which I hope will be repeated together with our partners from Citroen Romania”, added Alex Filip.
