Alex Filip finishes his first race after an year
The first podium with the Citroen C2 R2 model

After exactly one year, crew Alex Filip/Gicu Nemes manages to finish a rally. Crew 79 gained a position on a podium in group A, Cluj Rally 2008.
A year is a very long period of time. In sports, and especially in motor sport, such a long period without remarkable results can be fatal. In Cluj Rally, crew Alex Filip/Gicu Nemes interrupted the bad luck and managed to finish the rally on the podium in group A. „Exactly one year ago in Cluj Rally, we took the decision of changing our old Citroen Saxo with a Citroen C2 R2. Since then we haven't managed to finish any rally, because of various reasons. I would like to thank all our sponsors and partners for having so much patience with us. The place on the podium obtained this weekend in Cluj Rally is dedicated to them”, said Alex Filip, at the end of the 4th stage of the Romanian Rally Championship.
Cluj Rally, the last tarmac stage in 2008, started excellently for Alex Filip. The 79 pilot finished the first three special stages on the 2nd place in group A. „We started this rally more cautiously even if the car was working perfectly. The set-ups done in VTM stage in Alba Iulia helped me a lot. I will adopt the same rhythm because we must finish this rally”, said Alex Filip, in the first service park of the rally.
The three last stages of the first day of Cluj Rally finished without problems for Alex Filip and Gicu Nemes. After 105,8 kilometers, divided in 6 special stages, crew 79 finished the day on the 3rd position in group A ranking. „I haven't experienced this feeling for such a long time. The car worked perfectly and the difference between me and my competitors is not very big. Taking into consideration that our competitors have more powerful cars than ours, I am very pleased with our evolution. ”, added Alex Filip, at the end of the first day of Cluj Rally.
The last day of Cluj Rally was too short for Alex Filip to recover the seconds his competitors had in front of him. On Dangau special stage he managed to recover almost 10 seconds in his duel with the 2nd position winner and in the super special stage he managed to position himself on the 10th position in the general ranking. „I have finished this rally in force. I needed this result because we've encountered a very difficult period of time which I hope is over now. We still have 4 more stages this year and we haven't given up our objective - finishing the season on the podium of group A. ”, added Alex Filip.
This is our first podium with the Citroen C2 R2 model. In fact, this is the first podium with our new car. Some time passed since our last similar result and I am very happy we have managed to overpass these difficult moments. The season is not finished yet and I am pretty sure, if everything works properly, that we can have the same good results on gravel. ”, said Gicu Nemes, the crew 79 copilot.
