Traditionally hard
The BP Ultimate Acropolis Rally confirmed its reputation of being traditionally hard. Six special stages were held on its Day 2, covering 119.2 km: Aghii Theodori (32.16 km), Pissia (16.60) and Aghia Triada (10.80 km). The big, hard rocks of the greek SS’s surface have been the stars of the day, coupled by the heat, and turned the Greek Rally into a fight of men and machines against nature. Facing that challenge, Sebastien Loeb and his Citroen C4 WRC have been the winners of the day, although they had to clean the road, since they started first. On the bad side of luck stood Dani Sordo, who had managed to be on top of the classification during the day, as he took advantage of Loeb’s puncture in the 9th SS, but had the same bad luck later on, lost lots of time and fell down to the 7th overall. Petter Solberg and the new Impreza WRC2008 finnished 2nd, scoring good times and, most important, without problems. Petter’s big brother, Henning, is behind him on the 3rd place. Top Greeks, Vovos - “El-EM” retired on SS 9, due to steering problems.
Andreas Aigner attacked during the whole of the day in PWRC and managed to climb 1st followed by Mirco Baldacci and Bernando Sousa. Nasser Al Attiyah and Juho Hanninen who leaded during the first loop had both retired. The results of Greeks Athanassoulas – Zakheos are worth mentioning for sure, since they returned from superally and scored good times in almost all stages, winning one.
Tomorrow, the 3rd day of the Rally consists of 7 special stages of 102.32 km in total. Being the last day, doesn’t of course mean that it is going to be easy for anybody.
