Fascinating!
Day 1 of the BP Ultimate Acropolis Rally is over, and it has been fascinating all the way to the super special stage. Sixty crews competed each other on 7 special stages, covering 110 km.
Sebastien Loeb and his Citroen C4 WRC were the winners of the day. The 4 times World Champion crew, despite the fact that they were 2nd in the start list, which is a certain disadvantage, they managed to win 4 of the special stages of the day and came back to Tatoi on top of the classification. Their team mates,
Dani Sordo and Marc Marti are 2nd; they took advantage of the start list and scored top times. They also stood lucky on the last stage, where both
Mikko Hirvonen and
Jari-Matti Latvala faced problems with their suspensions, which resulted in lots of time lost. As a result,
Petter Solberg and the brand new Subaru Impreza WRC2008 are 3rd in the end of the day. The car doesn’t seem to face “childhood” problems and is working just fine. Top Greek crew are
Aris Vovos and “EL-EM”, who had to deal with huge amounts of dust coming into the cockpit, until the 5th stage. They have finally made it to the 13th place. In the PWRC,
Nasser Al-Attiyah and his Subaru Impreza managed to be on top with 01:10.2 of time gap from
Juho Hanninen, who is followed by
Loris Baldacci on the 3rd place. The first day of the event was concluded in Tatoi with the super special stage. More than 9,000 spectators attended the SSS on this year’s new gravel track, hosted in Tatoi military airport. Representatives of the Greek government were also present, among them being Mr. Vagelis Meimarakis, minister of Defence.
The 2nd day of the BP Ultimate Acropolis Rally consists of 6 special stages, covering 119 km in total. Most of the crews, who will leave the Service Park at 08:45 tomorrow morning, agree that it is going to be the hardest day of the event.
