Alex Filip and Gicu Nemes accomplished their objective in Iasi Rally finishing once again on the podium. After all the 8 stages of the Romanian Rally Championship, crew 79 gathers a number of 32 points and occupies the fourth position in group A.
16 special stages of 144 km. This is how much crew Alex Filip/Gicu Nemes had to race in Iasi Rally, the last stage of the Romanian Rally Championship. „We started the rally in an excellent shape and after the first day we found ourselves on the second position of group A. Unfortunately we lost a lot of time on the super special stage because it started to rain and the grip of our gravel tires on quarrel was zero.”, said Alex Filip, after the first day of Iasi stage.
The second day wasn't as perfect as the first one for crew 79 who lost a position in the general ranking of group A. „We have chosen the wrong type of tires on the first special stages and we've lost all the advance gained in th first day. In the end, when things started going on well it was already late to do anything.”, added Alex Filip.
Iasi Rally was the fifth stage in 2008 finished by crew Alex Filip and Gicu Nemes on the podium of group A behind the wheel of the Citroen C2R2. „From this point of view we have reached or objective. If we haven't had that series of abandons at the beginning of the season we would have been on the the podium and in the final general ranking of group A. Now there's nothing else to do and and all we can think of is getting ready for the next season.”, completed Alex Filip, at the end of the last stage of 2008 season.
