Petter Solberg’s hopes of second place on Rally Argentina were dashed halfway though Sunday’s opening stage when total electrical failure brought his Subaru Impreza to a halt.

Solberg started the final day relatively secure in second place, 1min 19sec behind the Citroen of rally leader Sebastien Loeb and 48sec ahead of his Subaru team-mate Chris Atkinson in third.

Solberg and Atkinson had been on course to record Subaru’s first double podium since Rally GB in 2003. Instead, Solberg retirement promoted Atkinson to second and Loeb’s team-mate Dani Sordo onto the final podium spot.

Petter’s brother Henning Solberg was another driver to hit problems in SS19. The Stobart Ford driver stopped between the 9km and 15km split point - the same section as his younger brother.

Toni Gardemeister of the Suzuki World Rally Team suffered power steering problems throughout the stage. He dropped almost four minutes to the stage winner, Jari-Matti Latvala.
