Wide Bodied Skoda
Jan Kopecky and Juho Hanninen have been secretly testing Skoda’s 2010 Super 2000 car, which features a wide body and wide track suspension, complying with the 2010 FIA regulations. Initial tests took place near the company factory at Mlada Bolslav on the Navarov and Brezovice stages. Other changes in the 2010 are not known but it is shown the initial testing was focussed on suspension set-up. Proposed dates for homogation and debut into rallying are yet announced. Meanwhile the official launch of Ford’s wide-bodied Fiesta S2000 is scheduled for 18th November, the day before the start of Rally of Scotland..
Changes at the top
Garry Connelly, Director of Rally Australia and Chairman of the organising committee, has resigned his positions. He was the founder of the Rally Australia, very popular events which were run for 19 years in Western Australia and which was reformed in 2009 in New South Wales. This was a planned rather than a political move. “I had always intended to stand down after the first event on the East Coast”, Garry confirmed. . His work in motorsport, both for the event and at the national federation, earned him his country’s AM decoration. Connelly continues to be a member of the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council, promotion he interests of CAMS (the Australia federation) and Australian motor sport in general. Meanwhile there are changes in the WMSC itself. Among those absent from the current line up of the sport’s decision makers are rally people Jacek Bartos from Poland, who works as the Safety Delegate for the world championship, and Derek Ledger who has been central to the running of the Middle East Rally Championship.
