Subaru World Rally Team Principal David Richards has spelled out his rallying solution to recession. "More entries! We are worried about the rules being proposed for 2009. Not only have the number of rallies been reduced from 15 to12, but next year only four mechanics will be allowed to work on cars at any one time during a world championship rally. This creates a lot of difficulties for us. We have been used to making a total of about 40 car starts in a world championship season, not we are faced next year with making as few as 24 starts. This is not just our feeling. We know that Citroen are worried about this problem as well. Our solution is that we should expand and start running B-teams as well as the official team cars, because this is a way to provide enough work for people in the team. As we see it, the only way to avoid laying off members of our team at the end of the year". Citroen already run an unofficial B-team, supplying cars for Aava and Rautenbach, but these cars are run independently by the PH Sport team rather than Citroen Sport. Ford already run officially registered B-teams within the championship, under the guise of Stobart and Munchis.
