Noriyuki Koseki, one of the bastions behind Subaru’s world rally championship successes, died this morning, 30th November. He had been ill for some time. As an outside contractor he helped to found Subaru Tecnica International, which was Subaru’s way into official rallying but already he had masterminded private Subaru entries on the Safari Rally which regularly achieved championship points. Later he was entrusted with the promotion of the miniature turbocharged four wheel drive Vivio cars. In 1993 he persuaded the late Colin McRae to rally one of these cars. He then represented Subaru in the FIA Manufacturers’ Commission.
From the secretariat of JAF, the Japanese federation, has come this tribute: “We will remember him for his courteousness, his enthusiasm for motor sport. I am sure those who had the privilege of knowing him will be deeply affected by his absence. JAF will cherish the memory of Mr. KOSEKI who contributed considerably to the development of the motor sport in Japan as well as international cooperation within the framework of the FIA”
