Crew Alex Filip/Gicu Nemes' objective for Tara Barsei Rally was to finish the stage on the podium. The two now occupy the 5th position in the general ranking of group A, with a total of 20 points.
„Maximum attack” were the key words for both Alex Filip and Gicu Nemes in Tara Barsei Rally 2008. The 6th stage of the Romanian Rally Championship started on Friday, August 29th with a rally show on the Sports High School Arena in Brasov. The rally show did not count in any way in the ranking of the rally. „This super special stage was only for the show. It was an excellent experience especially when we have finished with a very good timing: the second time in group A and the 13-th in the general ranking”, said Alex Filip after the first day of Tara Barsei Rally.
The first day of real competition started on Saturday, August 30th, when 6 stages took place on 100 km. After the first round, with special stages in Comandau, Zabratau and Barcani, Alex Filip and Gicu Nemes found themselves on the second position. „I like this special stages very much. The Citroen C2 R2 behaved perfectly on this type of surface, and the new Pirelli K4 tires, destined to two wheel drive cars helped me very much. Another advantage was the fact that the track was most of it plane or down hill.”, said Alex Filip, in the first service park.
Crew 79 continued its perfect evolution on the next round and even if a flat tire and a spin occurred, costing them 10 seconds, in the end they finished on the second position in group A.. „Our objective was to finish on the podium and we are very close to accomplishing it We have two more special stages which are not in our advantage, being up hill, but I am sure we have the resources to accomplish our objective.” said Gicu Nemes, the copilot of crew 79, at the end of the first day of Tara Barsei Rally.
Alex Filip and Gicu Nemes started the second day of the rally a little more cautious trying to preserve the advantage gained in the first 6 stages of the rally. „We didn't want to risk anything and we reduced the rhythm a little, being conscious of the differences between my car and my direct competitor's. Even in these conditions we managed to obtain a better timing on the last two stages than Ernest Mulner – our other competitor.
Unfortunately, after two thirds of the rally we had cede the second position to Alex Mitroi, who I have to congratulate for the result. I am very happy I managed to finish this rally and I would like to thank everybody in the technical team. The car worked perfectly, and the 6 points gained here represent another step towards our objective this season: the podium in the final ranking of group A”, said Alex Filip.
The next RRC stage, Avram Iancu Rally, is scheduled on September 19th -20th, on the gravel special stages around Cluj Napoca.
