Alex Filip started the Tess Rally 2008 with a lot of drive and ambtition but were hindered by a technical problem. In the end,
Alex Filip and
Gicu Nemes finished 5th in A 1.6.

Tess Rally 2008, the first leg of this year’s National Rally Championship, was also the first tarmac rally for
Alex Filip / Gicu Nemes on their new Citroen C2 R2. Tess Rally began on Friday, March the 7th, with a superspecial stage on the Ion Tiriac Arena. Alex’s time – 53’2”.
‘It was a good start for this season. Almost 3,500 people came to the show and that is very important for our sponsors and partners. The real rally starts Saturday though’, said alex Filip, at the end of this year’s first special stage.
Alex Filip and
Gicu Nemes started the first stage of the second day in force.
‘Everything went perfect in the beginning, but halfway through the stage, the engine started to cut off sporadically. We weren’t able to use the whole performance range of the car. We could only accelerate to 6,500 rpm tops’, said
Alex Filip in the day’s first service area. Still, the duo finished the stage with the second time in group A.
On the third stage, the electronic failure grew worse, and
Alex and
Gicu lost almost 2 minutes. Said Alex,
‘We tried to fix it in the service area and we hoped to recover lost time on stages 5 and 6. Unfortunately these were cancelled, and after we left the regrouping parc that followed SS 5, the car started to have the same problems as before’. Unfortunately the problem couldn’t be fixed in the last service area and on the last two special stages
Alex and
Gicu raced and the slow pace dictated by the electronic failure. The duo finished the rally on 5th place in group A 1.6.
‘I’m very sorry I didn’t have the best conditions for my favourite stages – Paraul Rece uphill and downhill, Poiana Brasov downhill and Babarunca. On the sunny side of the matter, I’m happy we can be competitive on tarmac. Our time on the second stage, even under those circumstances, makes me optimistic on the coming rallies on this surface’, said
Alex Filip at the end of Tess Rally 2008.
The next event in the National Rally Championship will take place on April 11th and 12th, in Resita.
