Patrik Sandell went to Monte Carlo to check out the performance of the Skoda Fabia Super 2000. Three weeks later he is to become the first independent user of this new car when he starts Rally Norway. "It was good to be here and see the car live, and see how what the mechanics thought about it. Apart from the power steering that Jan had on the first day, there have been no technical problems with the car". Last year Patrik drove a Peugeot in most of his outings in the PCWRC. "It is different to say how the two compare until one has the chance to have driven the Skoda for a while but it has a different sound from the Peugeots. For the Production Car championship I think it will be good. Last year I do not think we really set up the Peugeot very well for the Pirelli control tyres that we had to use, the Pirellis were much heavier and stiffer than the BF Goodrich tyres, and of course the fuel supplied by the FIA was better for the turbocharged cars than a normally aspirated car. I know that Skoda will do a good mapping for the engine to get the best out of the FIA fuel".
Sandell's team in 2008 was Peugeot Sweden, but he made to change to Skoda because he is now an official Red Bull driver and Red Bull preferred the Skoda. "My agreement with Red Bull is one year. I think a lot of the rallies in the PCWRC will be good for our car. Norway, Cyprus, Portugal Sardinia, Greece and Rally GB will all be good for the car. I am really looking forward to Norway, I have heard the conditions in the forests in Norway are now very good. There has been a lot of snow in my country Sweden and in Norway, then it was plus degrees, and then really cold which made the ice very firm, and now the snow has come again. There should also be a lot of good snowbanks as well. Rally Norway promises to be a classic winter rally".
