World Rally Cars are back again in a British championship event, albeit still in a non points-scoring role, after the Irish WRC rallying contingent mysteriously boycotted the recent Rally Isle of Man. Main change this year is the move of rally base from Armagh to Antrim, which means some traditionally famous Ulster Rally stages, especially those on the Antrim coastline, are back again in the rally after some years. The race for the British rally title could hardly be tighter. This is the penultimate round of the six-event series and the two top protagonists, Mark Higgins and Keith Cronin are lying equal on points, each with two maximum points and two second-best points. Because the final round will have a 1.5 points coefficient, eight drivers can still statistically win the series. Irish drivers are running strongly in the series this year, with four of the currently top six drivers in the series coming from one end or the other of the island. The event again counts for the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship as well as the British series, being the sixth out of eight rounds of the series. Comfortable series leader is Eugene Donnelly in his Skoda Fabia WRC ahead of Gareth MacHale’s Ford Focus WRC but reigning Tarmac champion Eamonn Boland has not entered, preferring instead to be better prepared for contesting the Catalunya world championship rally in early October.. A novelty is the inclusion of cars counting for the Renault Clio R3 West European Trophy cars, the only time this series ventures outside mainland Europe, including Kevin Abbring who earlier this year became the youngest driver to win a round of the FIA’s Junior world championship

The FIA’s World Rally Championship Commission say that no news about their recommendation as to the future of Rally Bulgaria as a qualifying round of the 2010 world rally championship is expected for another week.
Rally Jordan officials plan to integrate their WRC event in 2010 with their MERC regional rally. This double-event concept was trialed in Japan 2004 with the Japanese world championship event being twinned with the APRC regional rally. The experiment however led to a host of unexpected and catastrophic organisational problems and was not repeated.
Former Suzuki WRC team driver Per-Gunnar (" PG") Andersson won the Snapphane Rally at Hassleholm third out of five rounds in the national Swedish championship, his second successive win in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo.
The Richard Burns Memorial Rally was won by Ray Brammer in an ex-Tommi Makinen and Petter Solberg Subaru Impreza World Rally Car. Next weekend the Possum Bourne Memorial Rally will be held in New Zealand.
Welsh driver Stuart Jones won the Reykjavik Rally in Iceland at the weekend at the wheel of a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X.
