Alex Filip and Bogdan Iancu finished season 2009 with the best result in their career in the National Rally Championship: the 2nd place in the general ranking of group A.
Defending the first position in the general ranking, the objective with which Alex Filip and Bogdan Iancu started Arges Rally, became a very difficult mission after a flat tyre on the first stage of the rally. ”We have lost 35 seconds and from that moment on we knew we had nothing to loose. We raced to the limit on the next stages and managed to win the third stage with no problems.” said Alex Filip, in the first service park of the day
The first day of Arges Rally finished badly for crew 79. On the 4th stage, a little lost of control led to blocking the car in a ditch and spent more than a whole minute there. “We managed to get out of it with the help of the spectators and we would like to thank them for their help. Unfortunately, because of this mistake at the end of the first day we have to recover 73 seconds on the next 6 special stages”, said Bogdan Iancu, the co pilot of crew 79.
During the first two specials of the second day, the longest day of the rally, Alex Filip lost a few seconds in the duel with his rival in the fight for the title, but during the first run on SS 10 he managed to recover 28 seconds. “We raced to the limit all the time and the time obtained on the longest stage of the rally proved we are a mature crew. During the recce, we only checked this stage twice in order to protect the car borrowed from Bogdan Nastase, and in spite of that we have obtained every time we raced it the best time in group A”, said Alex Filip.
By the end of the second day of Arges Rally, Alex Filip and Bogdan Iancu recovered almost half of the difference at the end of the first day, but they didn’t have enough resources to attack the first position. « I would like to congratulate the champions and thank all the people supporting us this season. Of course, it would have been great to become champions, but when thinking to the first rally of the championship, the stage in Brasov, where I couldn’t take the start to and of the second rally when I managed to find resources for in the last minute, I think this is an honorable result. It has been a very hard season financially speaking and once more I would like to thank again all our sponsors supporting us this season: Orange Romania, Citroen Romania, Michelin Romania, Computerland and Radcom, and also our technical partners- Converse, Coza Advertising and Colina Motors”, said Alex Filip.
The next challenge for Alex Filip and Bogdan Iancu is Sibiu Rally Show. The event to take place on November 14th will also host a special competition dedicated to group A cars. “It is the first time the regulation allows the registration in the competition of group A cars, and Bogdan Iancu, my co pilot, he is at home in Sibiu. That is why we will go there and do a show”, added Alex Filip, after the last stage of the 2009 National Rally Championship.
