Semerad's PWRC Hopes

18 year old joint European Pirelli Star Driver Martin Semerad begins his Production Car championship challenge in Rally Norway, at the wheel of a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX. This will be his first winter event and the start of a major opportunity for him, as he not only has six world rallies under the PSD scheme to tackle (four of which also count for the PCWRC) but he will also contest the extra PCWRC rounds in Norway and Cyprus. He has only been allowed to compete in such a car for less than a year, as Czech drivers are restricted to competition in a small Group N car till they become 18. Martin's season is further interlinked with his high school education courses, but he also has had the chance to attend the Haugland winter rally driving course in Norway last month. John Haugland remembers him well. "I was quite amazed at the confidence of someone only 18. He has remarkable car control, but he was very easy on the car and is clearly very talented". Martin goes back to Norway with one extra mission, to do better than his former rally driving father, who competed in the Swedish Rally last year. Josef Semerad rolled on the very first stage. Josef is now the rally manager of the Prague based Charouz Racing System team.
