TESS Rally - Brasov 7-8 March 2008

2008 is the year when conservatism was defeated also in its last fortress, Brasov.
The organizers of the opening round of The Dunlop National Rally Championship 2008 are proposing entertainment and new stages for this year’s edition.

"Mainly, we thought it's time for us to change something in the course of the competition", said the president of the organizing club, Mr. Bela Stoica. "We have answered the challenge from our colleagues from Cluj, concerning the organization of a spectacular special stage - a Super Stage in Brasov", he continued. Indeed, with the total and unconditioned support we have this year from the local authorities and our generous sponsors as well, the organizers are proposing a Super Special Stage that will take place on a recently renovated sports arena situated in the heart of the historical city center (near Poarta Schei - The Schei Gate).

Having a 2500 seats capacity the town-center arena will be filled up on Friday, the 7th of March, when it will accommodate the first Special Stage of the Brasov Rally. Due to its reduced dimensions - it is a sports court of a nearby high-school - the participants will start one by one like in a classic rally stage. The show will be guaranteed by the stage's configuration, with many turns but loose enough for the participants to offer entertainment to the crowd.

After the evolution of the last competitor, who will be Dan Girtofan, the national champion, the spectators will take part in the official start of The Dunlop National Rally Championship 2008 season. The official start will be presided by the local authorities and Romanian Sports Motoring Federation authorities. The rally will continue Saturday with another six Special Stages, out of which two will be a first. Again the chairman of Auto Blic:

"We wanted to change something regarding the Special Stages, and because the geography of the area doesn't offer solutions for new stages, we have chosen to use some reversed tracks from the previous years. So, there we have: the <<Paraul rece >> stage which starts in the mountain resort and ends in the city of Rasnov and the seventh stage which starts in Rasnov and ends on the Warthe hill (on the road Brasov-Poiana Brasov), in our language <<reversed Paraul and Poiana>> ".

Whether it will be difficult or not, we don't know. Our hesitation arises also from the declaration given by Constantin (Puiu) Rusu, a very experienced driver from Brasov, who is considered to be the no. 1 specialist regarding the Poiana Brasov stage: "I'm sorry that I can't take part in these stages in this configuration. What I can say is that the stages are very difficult from the race driving perspective. If you ask me, I would recommend all drivers to be very cautious, also because it is the first rally after a long period of inactivity".

In conclusion, entertainment and new stages, two ingredients which should make you come out of the house in the second week-end of March.

Like you're used to, any news about the rally and the participants' names will be found on the official rally site (www.raliulbrasovului.ro) and on the best motorsports site in Romania, www.autorally.ro.
Doubtlessly in the first days of March the Auto Rally Magazine will be printed, encompassing the latest news about the competition, the program and the participants' list. Enjoy!
