Alex Filip and Bogdan Iancu managed to remain leaders in the general ranking of group A, in spite of technical problems. The fight for the title will take place during the last stage of the 2009 championship.
One point in advance and real chances to the group A title. This is how the configuration of the general ranking in group A looks like for crew 79 after Arad Rally. The 7th stage of the National Rally Championship started with a superspecial scheduled on the karting circuit in Arad, stage Alex Filip finished with the fifth time in group A „It’s very clear for me I don’t feel comfortableon this type of stage. I have done a little mistake and besides exetremely dangerous photos I havn’t obtained anything else”, said Alex Filip, after the first day of Arad Rally.
The second day, crew 79 started decided to make up for the lost time and obtain the 10 targeted points. On the first Saturday super special, Alex Filip and Bogdan Iancu raced fantasticly and managed to position themselves as leaders of the group with 10 seconds advance of their competitor. But this was the only good moment of the second rally day. “The fourth special was stopped because of an incident and we got by default a time in our disadvantage. On the last stage of the second round we raced the four last kilometres with a flat tyre and we almost got out of the track two times. Even in these conditions we had just 6 seconds weaker timein compariosn to our rivals”, said Alex Filip, in the park service of the rally.
„Maximum attack” was the mottofor the last Conop and Barzava stages, but crew 79 had do reduce rythm because of alternator problems. Before the last stage, Alex Filip and Bogdan Iancu tried to change the battery which caused a delayof three minutes in the time control point. “We took 30 seconds penalty, but I didn’t want to risk anything. Last year I had similar problems and the car stopped. Now our objective was to gather enough points to stay in the fight for the title”, added Alex Filip.
The 30 seconds penalty ment going down one poistion on the podium and obtaining only six points in the general ranking of group A. Even in these conditions, crew Alex Filip/Bogdan Iancu reached its objective and managed to keep its position in the ranking of group A with one point advance. "Of course, it would have been great to win here, which was perfectly possible if we didn’t have so many problems, but we are still on the first poistion. In Campulung, the fight will be spectacular and we are ready to defend our advance. I would like to thank all the sponsors supporting us in the 2009 season, especially the two companies decding to support us right at the end of the championship – Computerland Romania and Michelin Romania, because without their help it would hev been impossible for us to finish the season. Moreover, with their help, at the last stage of the championship we will take the start with a more performant car in order to fight equally with our direct competitors who own a superior model in compariosn with the one we have right now”, added Alex Filip, after the prizing festivity.
Arges Rally, the lsat stage of the 2009 season, will take place during October 30th – November 01st, on the gravel stages around Campulung. “I know it will not be an easy rally,but taking into consideration how well things happened in Arad, a completely new stage for us, I am sure we have the biggest chances to the titleof group A”, added Bogdan Iancu, the copilot of crew 79.
