Alex Filip and his copilot from Sibiu, Bogdan Iancu won their first victory with the Citroen C2 R2 model in group A. With the 10 points obtained in Cluj Rally, crew 79 went up on the second position of group a general ranking, just one point behind the leader of the group. No abandon in the Cluj Rally and qualifications on the podium at each stage. This is the track record of crew Alex Filip/Bogdan Iancu in the Cluj stage of the National Rally
Championship. The 2009 edition finished excellently, with a first victory in group A, a victory obtained, just like in football, in minute 90, meaning the last super special of the rally. Alex Filip and Bogdan Iancu started Cluj Rally with the best timing on the first special stage, followed by little problems on the second. „Several damage lights started flashing on the dashboard and we had to slow down our rhythm. I don't know what happened and I preferred to loose a few seconds on this stage”, said Alex Filip, in the first service park on Saturday.
The engineers of Colina Motors calmed them down and Alex Filip and Bogdan Iancu continued the day in the same rhythm, but still lost some seconds in their duel with the Cluj pilot Edwin Keleti. After the 5th special stage, the last one of the first day, crew 79 found itself on the second position of the group A ranking, at 9,3 seconds behind the leader. „Taking into consideration the power between the Citroen C2 R2 and the leader's car, I am pretty pleased with this result. Still, I haven't given up the first position, even if it won't be easy. We will have
another long stage tomorrow and I will race it maximum. This is our only chance”,
said Alex Filip, at the end of the first day of Cluj Rally Mobil 1. Sunday, the second day of the rally, Alex Filip and Bogdan Iancu adopted „maximum attack” on the 6th stage and managed to recover 8 seconds in the duel with Edwin Keleti. The
crucial fight was given on the last super special, Alex Filip managing to impose himself with an advance of 1,8 seconds in comparison with the next competitor in group A. „It was just like in football. We won in minute 90. It was a super special in which we raced close to the limit and managed to win the rally with an advance of just 0,8 seconds. It is my first victory with the Citroen C2 R2 and I would like to thank all those supporting me in all this time. I would like to dedicate this victory to the memory of Lucian Garbacea Sr., the one wining a first cup with this car. The 10 points won here replaced us in the title fight and we will fight for this title every race from now on.”,added Alex Filip. „It is the third race together and we already got a victory. Cluj Rally was an important test for us. We had five long special stages and two super specials where we got along just perfectly from all points of view. I am happy we managed to obtain the 10 points and that we have reached the second position in the general ranking of group A”, said Bogdan Iancu, the copilot of crew 79. Starting with the Timisoara stage, crew 79 involved in the „Race and Help” campaign: at each race, Alex Filip's sponsors will donate for charity 5 Euro for each kilometre of special stage raced. Therefore, in Cluj Rally, crew 79 raced 119,1 kilometres of special stage, meaning another 595,5 Euro entered the „Race and Help” campaign account, money donated by Colina
Motors. The total amount raised until now for the Hospice „Casa Sperantei” Foundation, Brasov, is of 1.777 Euro. Alex Filip and Bogdan Iancu will celebrate the victory in Cluj on June 26th, on the H2O beach in Mamaia at Orange Prepay Party where Duffy will sing for the first time in Romania.
The next stage of the Dunlop National Championship is scheduled, between July 16th – 18th on the gravel special stages around Sibiu. In 2009, crew Alex Filip/Bogdan Iancu counts on the support of partners:
Orange Romania, Citroën Romania, Coza Advertising, Cefin, Converse and Colina Motors.
