Wilks is British Champion

Guy Wilks was proclaimed British rally champion for the second year running, at the moment when Mark Higgins failed to restart the rally on the Saturday morning. For Mitsubishi it was a moment of relief after the many traumas of the season! Wilks went to Wales Rally GB behind on points but favourite through the dropped scores rule, and then took advantage of the misfortunes of the Higgins brothers. The risk that the occasional foreign registered drivers Juho Hanninen, Patrik Flodin and Eyvind Brynildsen could upset the way the British series would be resolved did not emerge, although Flodin beat the British drivers to the finish. The organisers declared that David Higgins and Guy Wilks would be their representatives in the PCWRC category, where already Mark Higgins and Darren Gass had taken over existing team entries, though Gass had to withdraw before the event.
