First news from the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council’s meeting today confirm that the FIA has accepted the world championship’s global promoter’s proposals for the 2010 world championship calendar. This means that there is a definite 12 round calendar with a possible addition of a 13th event, Bulgaria, if this year’s candidate rally meets with the approval of the FIA’s inspectors.
Second news is that the WMSC accepts the idea of loosening of the strict guidelines, stating that “event organisers will be given flexibility to evolve the character of their events to create a unique flavour. Rallies may be run over two, three or four days, but must finish on a Saturday or Sunday. To increase the spectacle, there will be freedom to mix asphalt and gravel surfaces either within a stage or within the itinerary of a day.
