World Cup Confusions
Announced during the Rally GB were the latest proposals for the FIA’s Super 2000 based world championship World Cup, intended to avoid the impending overlap between this series and the PCWRC, and possibly also the IRC as well, for which these cars will also be eligible.. Firstly, the name has changed. It is now to be called the "FIA WRC Cup". Secondly it is not to be a drivers’s championship but series for a team only. Like the way that the Production Car World Rally Championship (and also the Junior World Rally Championship) caters for one-car teams in which the drivers can change from event to event, the WRC Cup will continue for single teams but will not itemise the results of drivers at all. Thus no publicity will be given to the drivers of the cars at all. In the PCWRC and JWRC, the name of the team does not feature in the results and only the name of the driver on individual events in taking into points calculation. Thirdly the series is to be officially merged into the PCWRC.

Cars eligible for the WRCC (itself a confusion, as these initials also stand for the World Rally Championship Commission) are 2-litre normally aspirated Super 2000 cars, either under current rules or the new wide-bodied rules which come into force in 2010. Note that the calendars for the WRCC and the PCWRC are not identical. Portugal counts only for the WRCC. Coming progressively into focus is the increasing complexity of equivalence provisions. The 33mm turbo restrictor rule is expected to make the turbo cars more competitive on gravel than normally aspirated S2000 cars, but now comes the difficulty created by the new wide-body rules for new S2000 design cars, which will surely make S2000 designs even more competitive than orthodox Group N designs on asphalt

Goodbye Corsica
Corsica has been discarded by the French federation as the venue for the 2010 French world championship rally due to be held in October 1-3 as the penultimate round of the series. The chosen event will be run in the Alsace region in Eastern France. Details of the route are not yet settled, but essential decisions are due to be taken in Paris next week . A major French championship rally in that region has been based at Epinal since 2004 , but in earlier years it has been hosted at many other towns including Strasbourg and Mulhouse. It is expected that only about 20% of the stage route will be the same as recent editions of Rallye Alsace Vosges. Corsica had been held as France’s venue in the world series since the world series started in 1973, and was strongly advocated by the world championship Global Promoters ISC as one of the rallying’s classic events.
