More Skodas are coming. Skoda Motorsport has announced that the former Kronos driver Nicolas Vouilloz, IRC champion in 2008, is to drive as third official Skoda at Monte Carlo. Franz Wittmann Junior entered the Mikulas Rallysprint at Slusovice at short notice in a Skoda which he hopes to drive one of these cars in the 2010 IRC.
ISC news: the Viasat pay-TV station in Sweden has agreed to show rally programmes. Portuguese motorsport authorities have announced it has made a three-year agreement with ISC which will guarantee that country’s inclusion in the WRC during that period.
Rallye Deutschland is planning to take advantage of new WRC format freedoms, with a stages distance of 420km, a stage of 48km at Baumholder and another substantially mixed surfaced stage.
Junior World Rally Champion Martin Prokop is the latest customer for a Ford Fiesta S2000 for use in the seven events in the new 2010 SWRC, starting with the Swedish Rally, as well as Czech championship events. Prokop is quoted as saying this is to be part of a longer term plan to embrace driving the similar car in World Rally Car form in 2011onwards
Derek Ledger, who has been instrumental in the development of motorsport in the Middle East has resigned his Middle East Championship work, as a result of issues which arose in the recent FIA Presidential elections. Jerusalem born Ledger has had very long term connections with Jordan though recently he represented Yemen on the FIA’s world council. This ended when he was not asked to continue his position on the WMSC.
